Lisa
Hess Hesselgrave received her BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy
of the Fine Arts, and her MFA from Yale University School of Art.
Her work has been exhibited in Connecticut, New York City, and throughout
the northeast. Hesselgrave's paintings are included in numerous
private collections in the US and abroad. Her work addresses the human
figure and the landscape with a focus on color, light and form. Judy Birke
wrote of Hesselgrave's work, "Her domestic interiors tap into a deep
well of emotion where nothing is obvious."
A native of Pennsylvania, Hesselgrave
lives and works in Branford, CT. She was awarded a residency at the Millay
Colony in 1992 and again in 2002. She has taught painting and drawing
for 20 years and is currently an adjunct professor at Gateway Community
College in New Haven. Her work is represented by Kehler Liddell Gallery,
New Haven, CT.
